City Council Members Salaries:

In an effort to continue to be open and transparent to Maywood residents, we are providing the most current salary information for our City Council members. 

Each council member is paid $706 per month which includes the $150 per month allocation for their role on the Redevelopment Committee.  Members are also provided with insurance benefits which vary from $413 to $1,074 depending on their policy and dependents.  The following figures reflect each council members total monthly compensation including insurance benefits:

Vice Mayor Veronica Guardado $1,780

Councilman Felipe Aguirre $1,532.34

Councilman Thomas Martin $1,780.24

Councilman Edward Varela $1,478.05

 

CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS:

Maywood City Council meets every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6:15 pm at Maywood City Hall. 

AUGUST 2010 City Council Meetings: Please note the July 26, 2010 City Council meeting was postponed to Monday, August 2, 2010 at 6:15 pm.  Also, based on the aforementioned schedule, the City Council is scheduled to meet on Monday August 9, as well as Monday August 23, at 6:15 pm.

NEW CITY HALL OFFICE HOURS

Effective Monday, May 17, 2010, Maywood City Hall will be open from Monday through Thursday, from 8 am until 5 pm.  CITY HALL WILL BE CLOSED EVERY FRIDAY.  Maywood Residents may continue to access city-related information through this web site as well as pay their bills online with a Visa, Discover or Master Card credit card.

SAVE THE DATE: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME

The City of Maywood, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deparment, will be hosting "National Night Out Against Crime" on August 3, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Maywood Activities Center.  National Night Out is celebrated in communities across the country.

The focus of the event is to generate support for, and participation in, local anticirime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that residents are organized and working hard to protect their communities.   Community groups, residents, and families are encouraged to attend.

SHERIFF'S COMMUNITY SURVEY

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department wil be out walking Maywood streets and knocking on resident's doors on SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 2010 from 10 AM to 2PM to survey the safety and policing needs in our community.  Sheriff's will also set up a mobile command post in the City Hall parking lot where families and residents are welcome to stop by and say HELLO!!

FIRST ANNUAL SOUTHEAST JOB AND RESOURCE FAIR

The City of Maywood, in cooperation with Assembly Speaker John Perez and HUB Cities Consortium, is proud to host the First Annual Southeast Job and Resource Fair at Maywood City Hall on Saturday, August 21 from 9 am to 1 pm.  Prospective employers will be on-site to meet applicants.  Participants will obtain resume-writing tips, job search resource materials, and learn about available State resources.  The focus of the job fair is to prepare participants to secure local employment opportunities.  For additional information contact John Fermeno at (323) 535-4583 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. HIGH-EFFICIENCY TOILET REPLACEMENT PROGRAM

The City of Maywood has been awarded a conservation grant from the California Department of Water Resources, which includes funding through the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to provide free high-efficiency toilets, including installation for qualifying multi-family properties. MAYWOOD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Maywood Scholarship Program is designed to encourage students to a higher education, empower their community, and to create better citizens of the future. The city is offering scholarships to students planning to attend Community Colleges and Universities. Scholarship award amounts will be based on the number of applications the city receives. Priority of the awards will be given to City of Maywood residents first, Southeast Learning Center/Maywood Academy HS/Bell HS seniors second, and current university Community College/Trade School students last.

The City of Maywood offers a free WiFi network service to residents, businesses and visitors. Service is a best effort and users must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy upon logging on. The coverage is highly dependent upon location and proximity to wireless access points along Atlantic Blvd. and Slauson Ave.

Community Update

 

LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT As of Thursday, July 1, 2010, the City of Maywood contracted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as its policing service provider.  Despite this change, Maywood residents will continue to dial 911 FOR ALL EMERGENCY SERVICES.  Non-emergency matters will be handled from two locations.

 1) East LA Sheriffs Station/Jail  The nearby East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station will address non-emergency police questions and concerns including requests for police reports and auto towing issues, which occurred AFTER the Sheriff’s, began working in Maywood on July 1, 2010.

 NEW Maywood Community Safety Service Desk

Maywood residents may request police reports and towing-related information for incidents that were initiated by the former Maywood Police Department BEFORE July 1, 2010 at the Maywood Community Safety Service Desk (formerly Maywood Police Department). The desk is open Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm.  Maywood residents may also call the bilingual line at (323) 562-5732.

 

MAYWOOD ACTIVITIES CENTER EVENTS:

4th of July Family Fun Day: A Successful Celebration  Over 600 kids and parents attended our First Annual 4th of July Family Fun Day Celebration at the Maywood Activities Center this month to honor our nation’s birthday. 

Free fun was had by Maywood families as they spent a relaxing day at the park feasting on a hot dog lunch and swimming free of charge in our refreshing pool.  Kids won raffle prizes including toys, trips to Magic Mountain and Raging Waters, as well as nostalgic “The Simpsons” memorabilia.  Our energetic park staff hosted heated competitions including kids’ soccer shoot-outs, obstacle course races, and even dance contests! 

My Hero Baseball and Aquatic Program  The Maywood Activities Center will host a unique and much needed sports program for special needs children, the My Hero Program.  This summer, children with physical and developmental disabilities will participate in both baseball and aquatic activities on Sunday mornings from 9 am to noon through the month of September.  This on-going program is only $45. NEIGHBORHOOD SIDEWALK REHABILITATION PROJECT  The Neighborhood Sidewalk Rehabilitation Project is currently underway!!!  Notices will be posted on impacted streets prior to construction.  Work will be done from 7 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.  For more information contact Jose Garcia at (320) 562-5722.

Nuevo: Servicios de Seguridad de la Comunidad de Maywood Se podrá obtener información sobre asuntos policiales procesados bajo el cargo del antiguo departamento policial de Maywood ANTES del 1 de julio del 2010 en La Oficina de Servicios de Seguridad de la Comunidad de Maywood.  Esto incluirá reportes policiales e información sobre autos confiscados por la grúa.  Las oficinas están ubicadas en la antigua oficina del Departamento de Policías de Maywood y estarán  disponibles de lunes a jueves de 8 AM a 5 PM.  Favor de comunicarse al (323) 562-5732.

EVENTOS EN EL CENTRO DE ACTIVIDADES DE MAYWOOD: EL 4 DE JULIO: UNA EXITOSA CELBRACION FAMILIAR Más de 600 niños/as y p/madres asistieron a la primera celebración del 4 de julio en el Centro de Actividades de Maywood para darle honor al cumpleaños de nuestro país.          

Las familias gozaron de un día en el parque donde se les proveyó un almuerzo gratuito y una entrada gratuita a nuestra piscina fresca.  También se rifaron premios incluyendo juguetes, viajes a Magic Mountain y Raging Waters, además de recuerdos nostálgicos de las caricaturas “Los Simpsons”.  El personal enérgico del parque organizo concursos divertidos de fútbol, bailes, y carreras de pista de obstáculos. 

MI HEROE: UN PROGRAMA ACUATICO Y DE BEISBOL ESPECIAL Este verano, el Centro de Actividades de Maywood comenzará un programa especial para niños/as discapacitados/as, conocido como Mi Héroe o “My Hero”.  Los niños /as podrán tomar parte en actividades de béisbol y clases acuáticas. 

Las sesiones se llevarán a cabo los domingos de 9 AM a 12 PM hasta el mes de septiembre del 2010.  La cuota de registración es solo $45 y todavía hay cupo para participantes interesados.  Para más información comuníquese con la Srta. RESERVE LA FECHA: Primera Feria Anual de Empleo y Recursos del Sureste  La ciudad de Maywood, en cooperación con la oficina del Asambleísta John Pérez y “HUB Cities Consortium”, patrocinará la Primera Feria Anual de Empleo y Recursos del Sureste el sábado 21 de agosto de 9 am a 1 pm en las oficinas municipales de Maywood.

Sigue el proyecto de la rehabilitación de banquetas municipales que incluye selectas banquetas dañadas, bordillos, cunetas, caminos de entrada y asfalto en calles determinadas.
