Councilmember Thomas MartinI am proud to serve as your Maywood City Councilman. One of the major highlights for me has been our Multi-Purpose Community Building at Maywood Park. This structure took many years to accomplish. In fact, some people even said that it couldn't be built but as you come to Maywood Park you will see the 2 story beautiful structure. It took persistence and perseverance. The planning of such a huge structure that would serve our young residents and elderly came in the later part of 1994. Recently we just added a computer lab to this facility to help youngsters and adults learn how to operate a computer. Another highlight, is our city's college scholarship program. Community college or university bound Maywood residents fill our application at the college advisor office at Bell High School, Huntington Park High School or another local high school. The city judges the applicants and the top ten who win received a financial scholarship of up to $500. I encourage high school students from Maywood to apply and need some financial help to pay for books or classes. Applications are usually due by April but please feel free to contact the Maywood City Hall for applications.
We have many youngsters and families in our city. My philosophy is that we are here to serve you. The more programs we have, the better. This will help keep our children busy and live a sane life. Safety includes having more lights through out the city and less graffiti. We are working on setting up more lighting and a crew of people who will clean up the graffiti right away. If you see any graffiti, in our city, please call the graffiti hotline (323) 562-5000 and press button 7. I supported to have our streets fixed and we need to have our sidewalks fixed. I am also proud of having worked together with our neighboring cities. This coming year, we should see better lighting and smoother sidewalks. Si se puede! Highlights
