Mayor Ricardo Lara was elected to office in November 2018. He is serving his first term as Mayor of Maywood; beginning December 2020.
Ricardo’s decision to run for City Council stemmed from this love of people, and desire to serve the City of Maywood. He believes Maywood is a city of potential, promise, hope, and realized that Maywood residents have a voice that was not being heard. He will focus on the fundamental needs of the community and build bridges of trust to address and resolve issues including homelessness, public safety, and economic development, among others.
Ricardo along with his wife Cindy and two children Sebastian & Samantha are a proud family of civic service for the community. They have put in countless hours in volunteering work by being part of different organizations and committees. Ricardo has been a community activist for over 7 years, standing strong for Maywood and the communities of the Southeast Los Angeles (SELA).
Ricardo is a proud member of the following organizations: Maywood Lions Club, Annual Maywood Education Fair, Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), American Red Cross, Board member of the Southeast Rio Vista YMCA (2016-2018) and an active member of the Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) Community.
