Utility Users Tax Exemption for Senior and Individuals with Disabilities

The Utility User Tax Exemption is offered to eligible City of Maywood residents. The established program presents Maywood seniors and individuals with disabilities an exemption to their utility bills such as gas, electrical, etc. To qualify, a resident must be a user of utilities within the City of Maywood and is the sole responsible individual for the payment of the utility bill under the name.

Proof of eligibility will be required 

  • Must be a City of Maywood resident, and;
  • All utilities must be under the same name (of the person applying);
  • Senior Citizen who is of the age of sixty-two (62) or older, or
  • Disabled Citizen - an individual shall be considered to be disabled if he or she is unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or to be of long-continued and indefinite duration;
  • Meets the Supplemental Social Security Administration criteria of a blind or disabled person;
  • Mailed, e-mailed, or faxed applications will not be accepted


Senior Citizens must submit: 

  1. For age exemption, provide one or more of the following: photo ID  by state or federal government, verified birth certificate, and/or any other acceptable testifying date of birth. 
  2. A copy of the entire Telephone Provider bill with the applicant’s name and Maywood service address. If not applicable, please leave blank.
  3. A copy of the entire So Cal Gas bill showing the applicant's name and Maywood service address. If not applicable, please leave blank.
  4. A copy of the entire Mutual Water Company bill showing the applicant's name and Maywood service address. If not applicable, please leave blank.
  5. A copy of the entire So Cal Edison bill showing the applicant's name and Maywood service address. If not applicable, please leave blank.
  6. Applicant must state on the form the income for the applicant and each household member (as indicated on the application form).

Individuals with a Disability must submit: 

  1. Proof of disability, provide a  copy of certification signed by a licensed physician attesting that you are physically and/or mentally disabled, which can be expected to result in death or to be of long-continued and indefinite duration, hence, unable to engage in substantially gainful employment, and
  2. Meets the Supplemental Social Security Administration criteria of a blind or disabled person
  3. All the required items under Senior Citizen *(Proof of Age is not required)
